Whether you are new to owning chickens or an experienced chicken whisperer, a Craft and Sprout Coop will exceed your needs. Here are some of the most important things to think about when choosing your perfect coop.
Chicken Math is a REAL thing! If you know you know. We do come across some that have it under control. In either case, we do suggest leaving room to grow.
Depending on breed, on average it's 12" of roosting space per chicken. Use this as your guideline when you choose your coop.
We have removable dividers in our nesting boxes as we find that gives you flexibility. Sometimes they use the same box and sometimes they may never use one.
Depending on breed, free range and how your pecking order is established, 4-10 square ft per chicken is recommended. Sometimes they all get along and other times they need space.
Know your surroundings and predators. Sometimes you can have the chickens free range at different times of the day since it may be safer. If you aren't going to free range, make sure they have ample run space so they stay happy.
We love talking to our clients. Having questions is part of the process. We always welcome all thoughts and questions no matter how basic you think they are. You will become a chicken expert before you know it.
There are general guidelines you can use when selecting your perfect coop. Many factors such as free range, breed of chicken, size of chicken contribute to how much room you will need.
